Mon. Mar 30th 2009
On the morning of Monday March 30, 2009 the Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue Squad & Whitehouse Rescue Squad were dual alerted/dispatched at 9:29 for an injured worker who was trapped by a tree on his leg. The injured party was not the direct caller to Hunterdon County 911 Communications as the call was received via third party. Due to the location of the patient approximately 100 feet down a sloped embankment, mutual aid was dispatched including, Oldwick (24) Fire, Fairmount (34) Fire and Clinton (45) Rescue for low-angle rescue services. First on scene were Tewksbury Police Department and Tewksbury Rescue Assistant Chief who stabilized, accessed and immobilized the patient in a Stokes Basket following the arrival of Whitehouse Rescue.
Upon arrival, Rescue Technicians from Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad (CFARS) set up a haul safe 4:1 with a secondary safety line and tied in to the Stokes Basket. The patient was carried on-rope by responders to the top of the slope where he was transferred to a Whitehouse Rescue Squad ambulance for transport.
Due to the combined efforts of the emergency service agencies on scene, the patient was assessed, packaged, and safely extricated within 30 minutes from the arrival of CFARS rescue truck and approximately 60 minute of initial dispatch.
